Quite sorry for my ambiguity.
The display driver is indeed crashing.
The screen goes black, then turns back on and the message box "display driver has stopped and has recovered" displays in the bottom right of the screen.
I said flickering because it happens frequently, back to back black screens in a row if I am doing anything that I mentioned previously.
